Bone Spurs Causes

Bone spurs are formed as the body tries to repair itself by building bone. Bone spurs are usually formed in response to pressure, rubbing or stress continuing over a long period of time.

Age also plays a factor in the development of bone spurs. In Osteoarthritis the cartilage that covers the end of bones within joints breaks down and eventually wears away. Additionally the discs that that provide cushioning for the bones in the spine may also break down. This leads to pain and swelling and in some cases bone spurs. Bone spurs formed due to aging are usually found in the spine and feet.
